Endometriosis is chronic disease

Is defined as the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus ( colon , bladder, peritoneum)

The prevalance has been reported 10 % of the general femail population

Endometriosis currently with symptoms such as chronic pelvic pain, painful menstrual cycle, dyspareunia and ovarian cysts, intermenstrual bleeding, painful defecation and dysuria

    Several reproductive factors have been consistently associated with risk for endometriosis

such as alcohol use, caffeine intake, earlier age at menarche 

The immunologic, genetic, and serum markers proposed to date for endometriosis diagnosis are not sufficiently sensitive and specific to justify their use as a screening test.Endometriosis lesions identified during laparoscopy

While there is no definitive etiology of endometriosis, there are several hypotheses regarding how endometriotic lesions develop. Retrograde menstruation, in which uterine epithelial and stromal cells are disseminated and implanted into the peritoneal cavity via the fallopian tubes, is the most accepted mechanism for the pathogenesis of endometriosis

Endometriosis affects 15 % of all women of reproductive age and 70 % of women with chrionic pelvic pain

  Factorse associatd with decreased endometriosis risk are parity, smoking, current oral contraceptive use, higher body mass index, regular exercise , fish and omega-3 fatty acids use
